And You Thought the Middle Ages Were Over

Fox News

Move over Bird Flu, the plagues of the Middle Ages aren’t quite done yet. That’s right, someone in Los Angeles has been diagnosed with Bubonic Plague. Hysterics aside, cased of Bubonic Plague do appear periodically from time to time in the US, and according to the linked article, the last case in Los Angeles was in 1984.

One cannot help but notice, however the recent, strange reoccurrence of diseases thought to be almost entirely eliminated in the US like the mumps and scarlet fever. While the outbreaks of these diseases have been somewhat limited and controlled, they still represent and oddity in the modern medical trend of eliminating common disease.

It never hurts to pay attention to such things, to ensure you and your family have their immunizations updated, and to be aware of what the general health precautions are for when people come down with communicable diseases.
