1 Samuel 10:17-11:15

1 Samuel 10:17-11:15

There is a certain irony in the fact that God warned the Israelites that their king was a rebellion against Him, yet He gave them their king anyway. Sometimes God lets us have what we want simply to allow us to see His way more clearly. Too often our will is a rebellion against God’s will. God reveals to us His way through His Word, but we do not always listen or pay attention. Instead, we insist that we have a better way, and we demand that way until God lets it happen.

Why? Because though faith, God can demonstrate to us to trust in Him more fully sometimes by simply letting us endure the consequences of what we think we want. When we suddenly see that our will was not God’s and when we see that the consequences of our rebellion were not what we thought, it forces us to come back to God in contrition, more fully placing our trust in Him. In that way, even our sinful rebellion works toward our good.
