20060718 Bible Study for the Day: 1 Samuel 29-30

1 Samuel 29-30

Once again, God’s guiding hand steers David toward God’s ultimate destiny for him. Instead of riding out with the Philistines as a traitor to Israel, he is turned away and does not engage in battle against Israel. Because of that, he is able to reclaim the losses inflicted on his people by the Amalekite raid on his city, then his fairness and generosity ingratiated him to both his followers and the leaders of Judah.

In all of this, we see the lesson that Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:33. When we seek God’s Kingdom first, looking for ways to advance the Gospel and all it entails, we place ourselves in God’s Grace, and His providence is the result. This is not to say that life will be easy, that we will always have what we want, or that we will not suffer, rather this is to say that we will always live in hope, and that is a hope that does not disappoint as it is a hope that will be fulfilled in Heaven
