20060803 Bible Study for the Day- Job 15-17

Context for Job 15-17

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 1:25 NASB

Job 15-17

Job and his friends were convinced of their own wisdom as they argued back and forth about the nature of Job’s affliction. All the while, they had no idea that God’s purpose in allowing the devil to afflict Job was to use him as an object lesson for faith, a matter that has nothing to do with anything Job might have done.

The point here is that the trials that we face in our lives are not always about consequences, and our worldly logic rarely applies to matters of faith. Sometimes, God allows us to experience things simply for the benefit of our faith or the faith of others. Often, our suffering in faith acts as a testimony to that faith in ways we never conceived of at the time we were suffering.

Therefore, true wisdom is accepting whatever God gives us in our lives by faith, even when God allows us to suffer. This kind of wisdom is the wisdom of hope, which we know by faith never disappoints.
