2 Samuel 7

God’s covenant with David in 2 Samuel 7 is one that we should rejoice with David in, because it was this covenant that established the house of David as the line from which our Savior would come. Certainly, God’s promise to David had immediate application as well. It was David’s son Solomon who took the throne of Israel after him, and it was Solomon who built the temple David desired to build.

Yet, beneath that immediate promise is a far more enduring one. God promised David that his throne would endure forever before God, and it was that promise spoke of our Savior yet to come. That Savior was Jesus Christ, born of Mary of the House of David, the king, not just of Israel, but of all who believe in Him as their Savior. Through faith in Jesus, we are all members of the House of David, heirs with Christ to the eternal kingdom of Heaven, which God promised to David all those ages ago.
