God’s covenant with David in 2 Samuel 7 is one that we should rejoice with David in, because it was this covenant that established the house of David as the line from which our Savior would come. Certainly, God’s promise to David had immediate application as well. As David moved the Arc of the Covenant to his new capitol at Jerusalem, he celebrated its arrival in a way that some, specifically his wife Michal, found undignified and shameful. 20060824 Bible Study for the Day: 2 Samuel 2-3

The story of David becoming king is the story of the consequences of the sin of Israel. Israel demanded a king, rejecting God’s ordained order for their land. What they got was Saul, a man who descended into depravity and nearly cost Israel conquest by its enemies. Finally, David came to the throne by civil war and treachery.
