20060927 Money Won’t Fix Public Schools

A common topic of news and commentary reporting on public education focuses on how schools are funded. The latest news item in Ohio is the fact that public schools could loose funding due to a new requirement to report their enrollment again in February to be averaged with the count already required for October. School districts claim this second count can irrevocably harm school districts that have enrollment drops between October and February, thereby implying that academic quality will decrease as a result. 20060926 World Watch Focus- Populism Fails

The locked out workers of AK Steel recently voted to reject their employer’s latest, and possibly last, contract offer, effectively setting the stage for punitive action against the workers and their union. Traditionally, American sympathy has been with unions and their workers because Americans often see them as the underdogs against an unfair and greedy employer. The case of AK Steel, however, illustrates a truth about modern organized labor, and that is the reality that unions work to protect special interests without thought to the consequences of that protection. 20060926 Bible Study for the Day- 1 Kings 3-4

Solomon’s wisdom was renowned in all the world- even to this day-, but it was wisdom that came from God and not from Solomon’s own mind, a gift from God for Solomon’s faithfulness to God’s will. Solomon’s wisdom is an example of the application of seeking first God’s kingdom and righteousness. When God asked Solomon what he desired, Solomon answered by seeking God’s will through the wisdom to govern, not for personal gain.
