20070126 Bible Study for the Day- Isaiah 63:7-64:12

Context for Isaiah 63:7-64:12

Isaiah foresees the coming of the Savior and cries out for the redemption that Savior will bring. Isaiah knew that Israel would reject Jesus, and for that fact he mourns Israel’s rebellion against the God who created them as a nation.

Isaiah 63:7-64:12

Isaiah was a man of faith, and while we do not know why God chose him to carry his message to His people, we can see from Isaiah’s writings that he did so with diligence.

What we often forget is that Isaiah was a man of the same faith we now have. Certainly, he believed in the Messiah yet to come rather than the Messiah fulfilled, but what is the distinction? Isaiah believe that the Father would send His son into the world to bring the salvation of our sins we could not bring about on our own. Further, Isaiah believed in the eternal salvation of his soul through believe in that saving grace.

It is the continuity of that faith that brings us to study Isaiah’s words just as surely as we study John’s or Paul’s. Isaiah and John and Paul were men called by the same Word for the same purpose, that is to preach the Good News to those living in the darkness of sin. Having received faith from that Good News, we too then are part of that same faith, that stretches from Adam to the very last soul who receives that gift of grace as Christ comes again.

So, let us join Isaiah in his prayer for God’s mercy and help, so that sharing the same faith, we may all receive the same reward when the time comes through the strength God promises us through that faith.
