20070128 Bible Study for the Day- Isaiah 66

Context for Isaiah 66

Isaiah ends with a summary of his entire message: God will judge. For the unrighteous, there will be destruction. For the righteous, there will be the promise of Heaven.

Isaiah 66

God’s judgment is final and it is coming just as surely now as it was upon the people of Isaiah’s day. Isaiah’s purpose was to warn everyone against that judgment, both then and now, so that there was one last opportunity to repent and seek out God’s righteousness through faith.

We find ourselves in those same last days that the people of Jerusalem found themselves in all that time ago. Whether Jesus comes again today or in another thousand years, God’s judgment will find us just as surely as it did Jerusalem, and if we die before we repent, it is still too late.

Therefore, we must focus ourselves on what matters most, which is our faith and the righteousness of thoughts, words, and actions that faith produces. We must concentrate ourselves on walking this path of life in God’s way and upon Heaven our home, and we do that best through taking heed of the Word.

This ends our study of Isaiah. Tomorrow, we begin our study of Matthew.
