Fox News

If anyone reading this weblog actually cares what Joy Behar thinks, I am very disappointed. I think I debase this weblog by even mentioning her name here.

Nevertheless, Joy Behar is in the news because she, like many, many celebrity types just said something inane. And because more people get their news from The View than from any other source, lots of people are likely to respond, often by believing that what she had to say was true.

Frankly, I don’t give a rip what Joy Behar says, thinks, or believes–well, in reality I want her to believe in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, but that is an aside. What has me so fired up is that so many people do care, and that level of care reflects very badly on our society.

Certainly, Joy Behar is allowed to have her opinion, and if her show wants to air it, however uninformed it may be, that is their choice. Yet it seems somehow that, with a War on Terror going on, a presidential election upcoming, and so many other pressing issues of national importance to contend with, Americans should have more important things to focus on that what a middle aged talking head from a clueless talk show thinks about saints or anything else.

Underneath the whole issue of someone like Joy Behar is the fact that so many people form their opinions based upon what talking heads like her–celebrities, pundits, socialites–say and think. Too many people have no idea whether most of what they see in the media is even possible, let alone true, yet they take the opinion of these people seemingly almost without question.

If we really want to do something about our nation and the direction it is headed, the first thing we can do is convince our fellow citizens to pay attention to real news from real sources about real things that matter to us because they directly affect us. Of course, I open myself immediately to the question of “what is real”, but that is a discussion for another time. You could start finding out here, though.

But don’t people watch those shows so they don’t have to think about what’s going on in reality? Besides, the nice people on tv wouldn’t lie to me, would they?
