A book every American should be required to read

Worldview Item of the Day

Readers of this weblog know that I am a big fan of Michael Yon. I do not always agree with his conclusions, but I have to grant him the benefit of the doubt seeing that his opinion is based on multiple embeds in Iraq and Afghanistan where he saw the action up front and very personally.

Yon’s latest book, Moment of Truth in Iraq, promises to be a glimpse into the Iraq conflict that most people who are not reading in the milbogsphere are probably completely unaware of. With this book, Yon opens the window to a view of Iraq that the traditional media ignores and Iraq opponents deny exists. Yet, the facts are there in Yon’s writing if anyone wants to read them.

JR Michael, Greyhawk of The Mudville Gazette, writes a review of Yon’s new book for the New York Post that is worth reading itself because it comes from the perspective of a veteran of two tours in Iraq. I have not read Yon’s book yet, but already knowing his writing and reading Michael’s review reinforces my desire to do so.

I think that before any American can form a clear opinion about Iraq, he must know about the whole story. I think reading Moment of Truth in Iraq can help many people gain that knowledge.
