Well that was a disappointment

I have no idea what the pundits will say, but I found the vice-presidential debate a disappointment. Palin did well enough, but not spectacularly. Biden managed to keep his head. There was’t really any blood.

I don’t think this changes anything.

Are you conceding the election already with 4-1/2 weeks of campaigning to go?? Is the purpose of your writing to encourage traditional hardworking patriotic American values and to encourage other Americans to make smart choices in this and all elections?? Do you have any idea who reads your blogs and the effect on them? Then why are you taking such a negative defeatist tone in this blog and your 28 Sep “Concession of Reality”? You were the first person I know to state in absolute terms that John McCain was the person who should be our next President and Commander-in-Chief. Have you changed your mind? Do you want an Obama-Biden White House? This is a grinding, grueling marathon leading to 4 November and, especially now, we can’t flag in our enthusiasm, our zeal or our purpose. As you continually point out, a large percentage of Americans don’t work hard at paying attention to much of anything outside their personal bubbles. If that’s the case, why do you title and lead off with opening statements like you did on 28 Sep or a concluding statement like today’s? While your following points are very relevant, those surfing through your site may get entirely the opposite of the points you’re trying to make. I haven’t been very thrilled with the two debates to date either. I want to see fire and brimstone hurled at Obama-Biden based on the very real facts of their leftist, socialist, marxist, un-American connections, activities and decisions. I wanted to see Pitbulls and Barracudas going for the jugular. So, while I don’t think the debates were great successes, neither were they defeats. Did you see Obama’s defensiveness and hear how many times he agreed with McCain? He didn’t stand his ground. Did you see how Gov Palin put Biden on the defensive all night and notice how many outright lies he responded with and how all he could respond with were liberal campaign phrases? This election is winnable for America and now is the time to take the gloves off and deliver the knock-out blow. The marathon isn’t over until you’ve given all and crossed the finish line and broken that ribbon. And then, if you don’t win, you get back up and start training for the next run. This is a time for boldness, not timidity; a time for encouragement, not despair; a time for confidence, not doubt! This is a matter of right and wrong. We’re know we’re right and they are wrong!
To encourage you and your readers, I close with relevant quotes from two great American Naval heroes: In June 1813, as he lay dying of wounds suffered in battle with the British frigate HMS Shannon outside Boston Harbor, Captain James Lawrence of the USS Chesapeake urged his men to keep up the fight with that immortal command “…Tell the men to fire faster. Fight ’til she sinks, boys. DON’T GIVE UP THE SHIP.’ And, as he charged into Mobile Bay on 5 August 1864 to take out the last Confederate stronghold on the Gulf coast, Admiral David Farragut, issued that ultimate battle command now paraphrased “DAMN THE TORPEDOES, FULL SPEED AHEAD!” For today, let’s substitute “Media Polls” for Torpedoes and charge on…

f51gtracing, if my post conceding the election to Obama has the effect it has had on you, then it appears to be working.

The problem with this election is not people like me, it’s the scores of conservative voters I know who have not been spending as much time as they are able working toward getting John McCain elected. McCain is behind right now not because people like me are not doing what they can to energize conservative voters, but because conservative voters refuse to be energized.

McCain withdrew his campaign staff from Michigan today, obstensibly because he now believes he cannot win that state, one that he believed just weeks ago he could win. I believe Obama is very close to clenching this election because conservatives are not trying hard enough to help him win in states like Florida, Michigan, and Ohio.

For the record, I have been campaigning for John McCain for free on this weblog and elsewhere since 26 January 2008. I have spent dozens, maybe hundreds of hours writing here and elsewhere, talking to people, and encouraging anyone who will listen that McCain is the only person for the job in this election. Unfortunately, those words seem to be falling on deaf ears.

If pointing out that McCain is going to lose because of that deafness causes even just a few more people to care and do something about it, then I believe I have succeeded in my original task.

I’m not the one needing to be convinced. Have you detected any evidence of changing anyone’s mind elsewhere? That would be most encouraging to know.

  4. dlhitzeman says:

My question for you is why don’t you know the answer to that question yourself?

I’m not trying to convince you, but I’m bothered that so few people who supposedly support McCain are trying to convince anyone. It’s not just my job, but the job of anyone who cares about how this election turns out.

For the record, trying to change minds in Dayton is like one of the 300 Spartans trying to convince the Persians they are going to lose at Thermopylae. A few minds miht be changed, but the massive horde still remains.

I think I might have convinced a couple of people, but we need thousands to be conviced before it matters.

Obama has three campaing offices in downtown Dayton.

The Republican Party office in downtown is only open on the weekends and the McCain campaign headquarters for Montgomery county is located in an unmarked building in a shopping center in Centerville. That is not the way to change minds.
