Ghosts

One of the interesting things about being a 35-year-old college student is that I am able to see ghosts. Stop laughing; I’m serious.

I’ve been in and out of college for 17 years, and in that time I have discovered that life, in many ways is cyclic and repeating. Things that were true 17 years ago are still true today and will be tomorrow and for years to come. The punk kids are still punks; the idealists are still idealists; the progressives are progressives.

College is filled with kids (and adults) who are convinced they are making a difference, changing the system, making the world a better place. That was true 17 years ago, and it is now.

Ironically, the world is still very much the same. The details may be different, but the underpinnings have not changed.

Why bring this up? Because it serves as a reminder that there is really nothing new under the sun. The ideas promises of people and politicians (I have come to doubt they are people) simply repeat the ideas and promises that people have made in all times. If we believe we have created something new and better now, we are deluding ourselves.

We are definately deluded.
