I always thought the cataclysm that brought about post-apocalyptica would be a nuclear attack or a world crippling virus or something. Turns out it will likely be economy crushing debt.

What better reason to start developing enduring institutions at the local level than because federal and state governments are borrowing themselves into oblivion. The people who survive the bankruptcy of nations will be the ones capable of taking care of themselves, and the people most likely to be able to take care of themselves will be the ones who have already developed the kind of relationships that make up for their weaknesses and take advantage of their strengths.

As I’ve said before, make friends who grow their own food and own guns and do the same yourself. That is the beginning of localism.
