Do you still remember

Sometimes it really seems like a lot of Americans have a short memory.

Twelve days ago, a massive earthquake devastated Haiti and killed, by current estimates, as many as 250,000 people, not even counting those who may die during the painfully slow recovery.

Haiti needs our help because it cannot help itself.  Even with our bad economy and our idiotic government, we have a chance to do something in Haiti that might be unprecedented since our rebuilding of Germany and Japan since World War Two. It doesn’t matter what any other nation does. It matters what we do. Helping is the right thing to do.

And while we’re at it, maybe helping Haiti can be the thing that helps us reestablish our long standing tradition of compassion here at home. When we help others before we worry about ourselves, we make everyone better.

Do you remember when things were like that?
