20060909 Bible Study for the Day- 2 Samuel 24

Failing to trust in God to provide for us has consequences, both immediate and far reaching. The constant lesson of faith is that, whether things are going well or in dire straits, we must look to God for our guidance, and for us that guidance comes to us through God’s word. This is not to say that we are saved by piously reading the Word. No, we are saved by faith in what that Word teaches us, but we are strengthened in that faith by following that teaching in our daily lives, and by that strengthening we are able to face the world, the devil, and our own sinfulness with vigor. 20060906 Bible Study for the Day: 2 Samuel 21

God’s plan for judgment and redemption is final, and God always follows through on His promises. This statement is not some sort of threat to illicit behavior out of blind fear, but rather a reminder that the Word that God provides us gives us a clear testimony as to His will and His intentions. God promised the house of Saul that it would bear the burden of his sin, and it did. 20060907 Bible Study for the Day- 2 Samuel 22

David’s song is one of gratitude, the thanksgiving of a man who has lived his entire life under God’s grace and knows full well that it is God from which all of the blessings he has enjoyed have come. How often do we share that same gratitude and thanksgiving? It is an amazing thing just to be alive, let alone to have the talents, abilities, possessions, and capabilities that we have at our disposal everyday. Through faith, we know that we have these things because God has graciously given them to us. More importantly, faith reminds us that we have these things because God wants us to use them in His service. Continue reading

20060905 Bible Study for the Day: 2 Samuel 19:40-20:26

It is the nature of sinful human beings to make a bad situation worse. Israel had just been rocked by one rebellion, when the people of Israel allowed petty jealously to lead them into another. In doing so, another round of mayhem and death followed, prolonging the suffering of the nation. Continue reading
