20070320 Bible Study for the Day- Jeremiah 13

The image of the linen belt or undergarment is important for two reasons. First, God used it as an object lesson as to what Judah’s sin had done to them. They started out new and clean, well taken care of by God’s grace, but once they separated themselves from that grace by their constant sin, they became dirty and destroyed, useless for what God intended them for. Jeremiah was understandably upset. His own people, his own family, had tried to kill him as a result of God’s message, and Jeremiah wanted to know why these people still prospered even when they openly defied God’s will.
