Bible Study for the Day: Titus 3

Titus 3

As Paul closes his letter to Titus, he mentions two things that may seem strange to us today. First, he tells Titus of his plans to send Artemas or Tychicus to him. Second, he asks Titus to come to Nicopolis as soon as he can.

These two commands speak to us about the nature of Christ’s work for Christians. That work is not always about what the worker must do but also about where the worker must go. The Bible is full of exhortations and warnings for Christians to seek out God’s work, wherever it may be found. Sometimes that’s on the island where we are, sometimes its somewhere else where we must go.

Does this mean that all of us should pick up and seek God’s will elsewhere? Of course not. In fact, most Christians are doing the work of God right where they are, sometimes even helping those who journey toward their own work on their way.

The point is that we must always be looking for God’s will, wherever it may be, not just where we want it to be. And when we find that will, we must act on it with diligence and perseverance. These are the actions of a Christian life.
