The Glory of the Lord appeared before the people of Israel after their priests were consecrated for the first time. What must it have been like to see that sight, standing before the tabernacle the Lord commanded them to build?
And how much less should we be awed in the way that God comes to us today, through His Word and the Sacraments? Indeed, God is before us and with us every time we read His Word and partake of the Sacraments, and by those means we receive the promise of His Holy Spirit as the strength and renewal of our faith. So, like the Israelites realizing that God is before them, we should greet these gifts with humility and awe.
