Consider the things we expect from our pastors. We expect them to be knowledgeable, compassionate, and humble. We expect them to serve, yet we expect them to lead. Perhaps most importantly, we expect them to understand when we struggle with our faith and to be able to provide us comfort in our doubt. Yet, sometimes our pastors cannot measure up to the standards we place against them because they are impossibly demanding. Indeed, our pastors reveal themselves then to be exactly what we are, that is sinful human beings.
We all, however, have solace from these human failings in the person of Jesus Christ, our perfect pastor. In Jesus, we have solace because he understands our failures and frustrations because He is human like us, yet he can look beyond them as our God. Because of this fact, we can lay all of our cares on Him, sure that they will be understood and dealt with in the way we hope our human pastors would.
