Deuteronomy 9:1-10:11

In Deuteronomy 9:4-6, Moses reminds the Israelites that it is not their righteousness that has led God to drive the peoples out of the Promised Land before them. This is an important point to consider, as Moses illustrates, both for the Israelites and for us today as Christians.

This point holds for Christians because it is not because of our own righteousness that God has saved us through Jesus Christ. In fact, as Paul writes in Romans 5:6-11, just the opposite is true. Jesus died for us while we were still the enemies of God, drown in our own sins and cut off from the Kingdom of God.

The truth is that God saved us because of His Grace and Love. He gives us faith because of that Grace and Love. From beginning to end, the work of salvation is God’s, not men’s. This is a source of comfort for us as Christians, because we know that God’s Grace extends to us even though we are sinners and do not deserve to be saved.
