Obviously, Paul found dealing with the Corinthians trying, and apparently, the Corinthians found Paul to be difficult. What are better circumstances for personalities and ego to become the center of the life of Christians?
Our churches today often suffer from the same malaise. Instead of concentrating on the Gospel and our mission as the Body of Christ, we are often distracted by our likes and dislikes, our personal conflicts with other Christians, and our desire to vindicate ourselves in the eyes of our peers.
Instead, we should be like Paul was to the trying church in Corinth, willing to be a fool for the sake of the Gospel and giving everything of ourselves with no expectation of return. In this way, we can ensure that it is the Gospel and not ourselves that is prime among us.
