Leviticus 16
The Day of Atonement was a powerful day for the Israelites. On that day, they were forbidden from working and from entering the tabernacle. One that day, the high priest, a son of Aaron’s line, took before God, into the most Holy place, the sacrifices that were intended to cover over the sins of the people of Israel for that year.
As we approach Lent, we Christians also look forward to our own Day of Atonement. On Good Friday, our Savior, Jesus Christ, allowed himself to be led to the cross, at once high priest and sacrifice for our sins. On that day, as His only son died, God looked down on us, those who are faithful, and forgave our sin once and for all. In that forgiveness, we can rejoice, because we can now go into the world redeemed and ready to do God’s work.
