Leviticus 21-22

In order to stand before God, the priest himself had to be pure in the eyes of God’s law. That purity represented the requirement that nothing blame-ridden or blemished has its place in God’s eternal kingdom. Therefore, the priest was required to stand above even the laws of the people, taking onto himself a special law in order to approach God.

Yet, even that special law was not to achieve the ultimate forgiveness of God’s people in His sight. No, instead, God ordained that His one and only Son come into the world as one of His people, to live the holy, blameless life, without blemish or defect, which God required. Then, in the ultimate sacrifice for humankind, the only blameless human to ever live was executed by the very sinful humans He was sent to redeem.

Praise God that this is so, for in the death of Jesus Christ, the purity and blamelessness God demands is restored to His faithful people. In the Blood of Jesus, we find the forgiveness we could never find through endless sacrifices. In Jesus’ death, we are made clean and whole again.

The story does not even end there, for Jesus rose to restore us to eternity as well. Now, in His death and resurrection, we are restored to God’s holy kingdom as the heirs and likeness of the Father we were created to be.
