Hebrews 2

“Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.”

Hebrews 2:14-18 NASB

One of the most important aspects of our faith is that Jesus Christ was not only true God but also true man. As Paul tells us in Romans 5:12-20, sin entered the world by the action of a single man and by that action all men were condemned, therefore through the one man Jesus Christ- through his perfect life, death, and resurrection- all men can be saved.

Indeed, Jesus was a true man. He lived like us, worked like us, ate like us, and slept like us. In every way, He was like us except one: He had no sin, and in living that sinless life, He gained the perfection that no man had ever known, that is He was able to fulfill the law of God. Because of that perfection, Jesus’ gift of his death and resurrection have meaning for us, and is the core of the faith that we have as Christians.

Jesus’ humanity is also a solice for us while we wait for His return, because we know that He understand our state of affairs. He understands our weaknesses and our doubts. He understands our longings and our temptations. He understands, and that makes Him our personal savior, not just some ideal, and in that reality, we rejoice.
