Hebrews 3:1-6

For modern Christians, the consideration that Jesus was the fulfillment of the law should be second nature. In 2006, few of us understand living under the law as the first century Jews did, because the law was theirs to hold to uphold.

Yet, the fulfillment of the law is something that even modern Christians should consider while striving to strengthen our faith on a daily basis. Why? Because it is the law that sets the standard against which sin is measured, and it is the law that sinful humans cannot fulfill.

As Jesus himself told us, he did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Jesus set us free from the bondage of sin by perfectly carrying out everything that the law required of us to achieve righteousness, a task we could never perform on our own.

Then, having fulfilled that law, Jesus paid the debt of our rebellion by dying on the cross and gained us entry into Heaven by rising again to the same eternal life we will receive on the last day. In this way, everything promised by God in his law, righteousness, sacrifice, atonement, and redemption were fulfilled.
