Tech Item of the Day: Flying Cruise Ship

This is so freaking cool! A start-up company called Worldwide Aeros Corporation a two football field long semi-dirigible designed to haul passengers over long distances in cruise ship style. Granted, I am not a fan of cruise ships, but the idea of resurrecting the dirigible as a cheaper and more efficient mode of transporting people and cargos over long distances is about due.

This idea fits into a class of ideas to use dirigible vehicles to replace trucks and trains, and to even replace ships in transporting cargo. The advantage is that a dirigible, while it is slow, can operate 24-7 at that speed. Further, some designs might even be able to make ‘way stops’ delivering their cargo over a predetermined route.

The future of this idea even includes robotic dirigibles that follow predetermined paths to carry cargo from, say, New York to LA, without the need for human intervention except in emergencies. Such technology would allow for faster and cheaper delivery of cargo across the US.

I hope to see these beauties flying soon!
