Hebrews 13:1-8

In these days of constantly changing belief, where nothing is safe from the ravages of revision and reinterpretation, it is important for Christians to remember the agelessness and changelessness of our faith. Our faith is not just our own, in fact it is the faith of all Christians in all times, from the faith of the Apostles to the faith of the Christians that walk this earth today.

Why is this an important consideration? Because, even within the church, there are those who want to change the elements of our faith to suit a modern vision of what they think faith should be. They want to reinterpret the Bible, change the meanings of the Means of Grace, and do away with our ancient understanding of what it means to be Christian. They want to replace that understanding with something that is not faith at all. They want to fill the minds of the faithful with the rationalizations of men, the very sin which separated us from God to begin with.

Yet, in spite of this, the Word of God itself remains changeless, and so therefore does the faith that it brings. In this changeless Word, we share the fellowship of our Christ and our Christian forbearers, celebrating the miracle of salvation with all those who have gone before us. Ours is a timeless faith for a shifting time, and to that rock we cling.
