Numbers 27, 36

In the story of Zelophehad’s daughters, we see the God of Justice and Mercy in action among the Israelites. These women were the daughters of one of the original Israelites brought out of Egypt by God who subsequently died in the desert as God had commanded. Now, as Israel prepared to enter the Promised Land and take it for their own, these women were potentially left destitute in the distribution of the promised inheritance because there was no male heir to stake their family’s claim.

But it was not God’s intent to leave any of His people out of their promised inheritance. While all of God’s people were given different roles to play in the nation of Israel, the were all inheritors of the same promise. Because of this, He established the means by which Zelophehad’s daughters would be able to claim their inheritance just as surely as any of the rest of the Israelites.

Our inheritance of faith, and by faith heaven, is the same. There is no distinction in our inheritance. Just as surely as all of us- men and women- have sinned and deserve condemnation, we are also each given salvation and promised heaven through the gift of faith in Jesus Christ. We will all stand together in heaven, united as the Body of Christ.
