Numbers 32

Seeing something through to completion can sometimes be a hard thing. Many of us have been engaged in project that last a long time- perhaps months or years- and sometimes it seems like we will never reach the end.

There is one thing we are all engaged in as Christians that we all must see to the end, and that is our journey of faith. Faith begins in us when we hear the Word and the Holy Spirit plants in our hearts that saving belief in Jesus Christ as our Savior. That action, however is not the end of the journey, but the beginning. From the moment we receive that saving faith, two things occur. First, the world, the devil, and our own sinful flesh begin to work against us to take that faith away. Second, being faithful, we begin to put that faith into action in our thoughts, words, and deeds.

The tribes of Reuben and Gad were in danger of quitting before the job was done in today’s reading, but Moses warned them of the sin of their fathers and helped them see that the had to see the taking of the Promised Land through to its completion. We can take a lesson from that exchange as a reminder that our journey of faith does not end until we reach Heaven and the Judgment seat before God.
