    They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

    The people of Capernaum were amazed at Jesus. Obviously, He was someone special because he could command evil spirits, and they obeyed Him. More importantly for them, He spoke about the Word of God with an authority they had never heard before, and that authority, both over the Word and spirits left a powerful impression.
    It is that authority that Jesus holds that gives us the confidence we have in our faith. In Jesus we see the authority of the Word made flesh, dwelling among us, and teaching us with the confidence that can only be found from the source of the Truth itself. Because of this authority, we can set aside our doubts, placing our trust fully in the Word- that is Jesus Christ.
