Mark 1:35-2:12

Jesus went off by himself and prayed in Mark 1:35. This is an example that too may of us as modern Christians fail to understand or to follow. Jesus’ habit of finding times and places to be alone and talk with God shows us one of the aspects of our Christian life, and that is sometimes removing ourselves from the world so that we can be closer- in our hearts and our minds- to our God.

This is not a permanent removal but rather a temporary retreat from the constant distractions of the world that seeks to lead us away from our faith. By taking time to purposefully turn our backs on the world and all of its distractions, we give ourselves an opportunity to listen for what God has to say to us in Bible study and through prayer.

So, the next time the world seems overwhelming, just walk away. Take a Bible, find a quiet place, and read and pray. God will strengthen you through such actions, and you will be ready to face the world again.
