1 Peter 3:13-4:6

Being Christians makes us different. It means that we do not act like everyone else. We believe different. We think different. We act different. Yet, this difference is not because we believe such actions will save us, rather we do these things because we are aware of a better way, revealed to us by faith. What good, then, are these actions? If we are saved by Grace through faith, and our actions do not matter, then what do these actions accomplish for us?

First, our actions act as our primary testimony of our faith. How does faith reveal itself without action? Our actions as Christians reflect the saving work of Christ. Even telling someone else about our faith is an action, an action motivated by faith for the spreading of the Gospel to those who have not heard.

Second, our actions act as a protection for our own faith. If we are acting according to the Will of Christ, then how can we be succumbing to the things of the world? Indeed, our actions lead us to the very works God has promised to place in our lives for us to do, and each of these works is designed for our benefit and the advancement of the Gospel.

Ultimately, our actions as Christians are Christ’s actions reflected through us. These actions serve to set us apart, just as the Old Testament priesthood was set apart. By these actions, we serve our God by spreading His Gospel and focusing ourselves on our goal of Heaven. What better good can their be than those actions?

This seems, to me, to be the ultimate “What Would Jesus Do?”
