Context for Isaiah 56-57
God’s promise of salvation is for all people, first revealed to the Jews then spread to all the earth through the power of God’s Word and His promise.
The verses of Isaiah 56:1-12 are a promise targeted directly at us. Not too many of us can trace our lineage back to Jewish ancestors, so that makes us Gentiles, Gentiles saved by the Light promised to us.
This promise is important because it means that our understanding of faith is just as valid as someone’s who comes from God’s chosen people. We are no longer outsiders in our relationship with God, instead we are adopted children, just as surely heirs of Abraham and David as those born into that inheritance by blood.
