20070129 Hey Americans, Is This What You Want Your Nation to Be?

BlackFive

I held my peace about the ‘peace protest’ in Washington this weekend because, after a fashion, this kind of right to free speech and gathering in protest is exactly what the US Armed Forces do their job for, wherever and whenever they are asked to do it. Certainly, we live in a free society, and the liberty to disagree, even when one is wrong, cannot be taken away.

It rankled me that those same protestors were allowed to paint graffiti on the steps of the US Capitol, but I decided to let it go. Many other pundits and bloggers were already expressing the disgust I feel about the fact that these so-called ‘peace activists’ obviously have no idea what their Constitution and First Amendment really mean. Then again, this is a sign of the times we live in, and I have to take the moral high road, right?

I was even going to let pass the fact that the liberal media and liberal politicians are trying to characterize that protest as being representative of the will of the great majority of Americans. I, perhaps naively, do not believe that fact is the case, however even if it is, it turns out that the majority is not the best way to make foreign policy and military decisions anyway.

I was just going to let the whole thing go until I read this blog post. Having now read this post twice, I decided two things. First, I cannot keep silent. Second, I have returned to my long standing fight against the blight of Liberal Leftism and all that it stands for and is doing to my nation.

So, we are back to spitting on soldiers? We are back to defaming the very men and women who volunteered to risk their lives in a foreign country so that they can return home to be villainized by a bunch of unwashed, uneducated, unaware, unemployed, crowd-following Liberal Leftist whose main desire is to reduce America to socialist pawn state living in tree houses so as to not offend the animals or the fundamentalist Islamic terrorists.

So, we are back to the days when conceding, retreating, and losing, thereby permanently tarnishing America’s image on the world stage is the acceptable thing to do (let us not forget that Ayman al Zawahiri, Asama bin Laden, and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi repeatedly invoke the image of Vietnam in encouraging our defeat). We are back to burying our head in the sand while the menace of a determined foreign enemy coalesces and grows into the defining threat of this century.

And for what? What are we rushing headlong into conceding Iraq for? What do we gain by quitting? What plan, coherent or otherwise, has the Liberal Left offered for anything, let alone Iraq, that does not require Americans to accept socialization, the limitation of their Constitutionally guaranteed liberties, and the subjugation of the nation to forces who do not have America’s best interests at heart.

Of course, the real problem here is not Liberal Leftist protesters, who make up such a small minority that their voice is practically irrelevant under better circumstances, but the great ambivalent mass of the American people who let Liberal Leftist protestors, the liberal Mainstream Media, and self serving oligarchic politicians tell them what to think without giving much real thought to the facts or the consequences.

As a result, Liberal Leftist protestors will be allowed to spit on American soldiers and no one is going to do anything about it. Those same soldiers are going to be allowed to return home from the war we asked them to fight to protests and derision, and few are going to care enough to do something. America is going to lose a war it has every capacity to win, and Americans are really going to believe that it is someone other than their fault.

As for me, I have no plan to be silent. Enough is enough. America is better than this, if Americans would just wake up and stop letting the Liberal Left, the media, and the rest of the world have their way. If my own small voice, in concert with the other voices crying out against this tragedy can change even one mind, then my time here is well spent.

Think about what I have said here and do something about it.

Good points well made. Congrats on being able to exercise so much restraint for so long.

The salient question is at the end: for what? Why all of this moaning? What, really, do we want this country to do and be?

    Good post.
