The tech news sites are abuzz this week with the International Consumer Electronics Show, an annual technology love fest typically held in the beginning of the year in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Unfortunately, much like the international auto shows it seeks to mirror, the CES is a lot of glitz without a whole lot of substance. Many of the products ‘released’ or ‘demoed’ by the time of the show have already been known to the market for months, and the so-called groundbreaking speeches and presentations are often really warm-ups for the corporate shareholders meetings of later in the year.

On the upside, the gadgets are cool, if often impractical, and sometimes one of those gadgets does make the impact it was meant to (cite the Apple Ipod). At any rate, it should be interesting, at least, to see what the tech pundits predict for the technology year as a result of the CES.
