Leviticus 18

What distinguishes us as Christians from the rest of the world? What makes the rest of the world look at us a say, “Ah, those are Christians”? For the people of Israel, it was obedience to God’s commands for them. God specifically outline their behavior, not only for their own good, but as a mark that they were different from the peoples of the lands around them. Because their behavior was different, it was noticeable, and that notice brought notice to God their Father as well.

In our modern times, it is far too easy for us as Christians to blend in with the world. Too often, we are unremarkable from the non-Christians around us. We dress the same. We act the same. We speak the same. We partake in the entertainment. What signifies that we are Christians?

The truth is that our actions are what we have, just as the Israelites had under the law. Because of faith, we realize that, while many things can be done, for the sake of the righteousness we have been given through Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection, not all things should be done.

As Christians, we should set ourselves apart by our example, and our example is our love for one another and our faithfulness to our Savior. Without these things, how is the Gospel glorified through us? It is by our actions that we will be known, whatever we may say, and as Christians, it will be our actions that set us apart as God’s chosen people.
