Hebrews 9:16-28

The writer to the Hebrews tells us of the nature of sacrifice, both the sacrifices made by the people and the priests and the sacrifice made by Jesus on the cross. In that comparison, we can see the amazing fulfillment of the promise of Grace in Jesus’ death. That death bore our sins before God as final proof that the law was fulfilled. In that fulfillment, the rebellion of man against God ended for those who place their trust in Jesus Christ our Lord.

It is important for us to remember, as we travel through life with our faith, that our faith was bought with a price. It is not some casual gift, but the ultimate gift of our Savior’s life for our own. This was a gift paid for in blood and agony upon the cross, won in the cruelest way possible. Because of the very nature of this gift, we must not treat our faith casually or without thought, for who would every disgrace the name of someone who died on our behalf?

For that reason, we strive to be like Christ, seeking God’s righteousness and His Kingdom, and waiting patiently for His return and the fulfillment of our final promise of Heaven.
