Hebrews 12:1-17

Sometimes we do not want to think about the fact that, despite our saving faith, we are also chained to our sinful flesh. Because of that unbroken link, we often do the very things our faith does not want us to do.

For that reason, God disciplines us as parents discipline their children. Sometimes this discipline comes through being allowed to suffer the consequences of our actions. Sometimes discipline comes through being faced with new things being placed in our path for use to do.

The point is that this discipline reveals to us once again that our faith is a living thing, urging us forward, correcting us when we do wrong, and sustaining us when we inflict injury upon ourselves because of sin. In this life of active faith, we find ourselves constantly molded and shaped to God’s will, bringing us ever closer to Heaven.
