Numbers 16:36-18:7

Rebellion is a constant theme of the Book of Numbers. In fact, we often marvel at how the Israelites, in the face of such great signs, could constantly rebel against the Lord. The truth, however, is that we do not need to look beyond ourselves for such rebellion, for rebellion is the nature of sin.

In fact, the truth that we marvel at the Israelites sins without even considering that they are our own evidences our own state of sinful rebellion. It is a great wonder, then, that God sent His Son to die and rise for us. Even more wonderful is the reality that our salvation is secured by a gift of Grace that is given to us without any action on our part. In spite of our rebellion, God saves us and gives us the means by which we are saved.

It is the hope of that Grace that we cling to as the devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh rebel around us. If we keep our eyes constantly fixed on our salvation through the power of the Word of God, then we are assured succor from this rebellious age and passage into the rebellionless next.
