Mark 4:21-34

Faith is a near thing. What do I mean by that? I mean that it takes hardly anything to produce faith, and such a faith is just as saving as the faith of a saint. That is the message Jesus tells us in the parable of the mustard seed.

We often look for spectacular results from our own sharing of the Gospel, and we are often disappointed because that sharing seems to have produced nothing. In truth, we are disappointed because there does not seem to be an immediate reward for our effort.

But God knows better, and He knows that a tiny faith is enough, so long as it is faith in Jesus Christ. We may never know whether something we have said to someone has had any affect, but for that person what we said might have been what was needed for the Holy Spirit to do His work within that person.

Because of that, we should take every opportunity to share the Gospel, even if it is just a passing mention, such as the simple fact that we go to church. That mention may be enough, and if faith is the result, whether we know it or not, God’s work has been done.
