Judges 9:1-10:5

Evil always begets evil, but even in the midst of idolatry and pride, God still works for the good of His people. Abimelech was hardly a righteous man, nor were the people of Israel who followed him, yet even through the events in today’s reading, God still ruled, acting as arbiter and judge.

The evil of Abimelech’s time still pervades even today, as sinful men pridefully scheme for power and their own benefit against each other, yet even in the midst of that sin, God is still with us, and His will is always done. Even when things seem hopeless, as if God has abandoned us, then most of all God stands with us as our shield and our guide on the journey home. He will not abandon His people to the wiles of men or sin, but will see each one of them into His kingdom.
