Bible Study for the Day: Judges 21

The last chapter of Judges ends with a bittersweet story. Because of the horrific sin of the Benjaminites, the rest of Israel refused to give their daughters to the Benjaminites as wives, yet no one in Israel was willing to cut that tribe off from Israel completely. The story ends with the rest of Israel delivering wives to the Benjaminites captured in battle so that the tribe of Benjamin might be restored. Continue reading

Bible Study for the Day: Judges 20

The ultimate penalty for sin is death, and the penalty paid by the Benjaminites for their tolerance of the sin perpetrated against the Levite was a powerful reminder that God does not tolerate sin, especially among His own people. This is a lesson that even Christians today should remember, as the modern church is assailed by the forces of sin, the world, and the devil. Continue reading

Bible Study for the Day: Judges 19

The depravity of evil men knows no bounds. That is what the story of the Levite and his concubine shows us. Indeed, when men deny God, they deny God’s law, and it is only by fulfilling the law that any good can be done. The depravity of the time of the Judges is really no different than the depravity of our own time. Sinful men commit sinful deeds, whatever their kind, because they are separated from God’s grace and therefore God’s goodness. Continue reading
