Judges 17-18

Israel had obviously fallen away. Just a few generations after God had delivered the Promised Land into their hands, and the people of Israel had returned to their old ways, building temples and worshiping idols whatever the intentions of those things might have been.

How different, however, is our modern culture of rampant relativistic postmodernism than Israel at the time of the Judges? The truth is not at all. Sin is sin. Idolatry is idolatry, whatever its form. Whether it is idols cast from gold or idols on TV, all people have the tendency to deny the true God in favor of gods of their own making.

As Christians, one of our most important jobs is to guard ourselves and our fellow Christians against the temptations of the world that would lead us away from God. That is the purpose of stories like Micah’s Idols, that we can see how easily we can be led astray and into other ways of thinking, especially thinking that seems right when it is obviously wrong. Pray that we can resist these temptations and remain true to our God while the world assaults us on every side.
