Judges 19

The depravity of evil men knows no bounds. That is what the story of the Levite and his concubine shows us. Indeed, when men deny God, they deny God’s law, and it is only by fulfilling the law that any good can be done. The depravity of the time of the Judges is really no different than the depravity of our own time. Sinful men commit sinful deeds, whatever their kind, because they are separated from God’s grace and therefore God’s goodness.

It is to heal that separation that Jesus died for us, and it is through the Grace of our faith that we are reunited with God through a law that has been fulfilled for us. In this state of Grace, we now work toward the Goodness of God by the strength give us by the Holy Spirit through the Word and the Sacraments.

Chief to that Goodness is the spreading of that saving Word of Grace to our fellow sinful men who still live in their depravity separate from God. It is our most important task as Christians to carry the Message we have heard and believed to the whole world, so that by that Message all men might be saved.
