1 Peter 4:7-19

The end of all things is near. Almost 2000 years after that statement was written, it is easy to wonder if that end is any closer now than it was then. Certainly, we have time in our current era if Jesus has not returned yet.

Those are dangerous thoughts for Christians, the dangerous thoughts that led the foolish virgins not to have enough oil to last until the Bridegroom came. They are dangerous thoughts because they lead us away from our dedication to the purpose of our faith which is the Gospel that has saved us.

The truth is that the end of all things is near, for each and every one of us, whether that end is through Jesus’ return or through our own mortal deaths. Either way, we will be at the end of that time when we can still receive the Gospel and conform ourselves to Christ our Redeemer.

More importantly, that same end is near for everyone around us as well. Everyday that passes us by is another day closer to the end for everyone who has not heard the saving Gospel. Because we know that end is near, we should constantly be looking for ways to proclaim that Gospel to those who have not heard, that the Spirit might bring them to the same faith that prepares us for our own end.

The end of all things is near. What are we doing to make sure everyone is ready?
