Michael Yon Online: Moment of Truth in Iraq

Michael Yon’s opinions on Iraq are among the few that are truly relevant to me simply because he has the distinction of having spent quite a lot of time in Iraq in the field with out fighting forces. I do not always agree with his assessments, but I cannot deny the prescience of his insights compared to my own.

His latest post deserves a great deal of consideration by anyone who wants to see the mission in Iraq succeed in 2008, especially because it announces the publication of his upcoming book Moment of Truth in Iraq. I think that this book and Yon’s weblog should be mandatory reading for anyone who wants to have an opinion on Iraq.

Wars have always been fought and won on information–accurate, available, and actionable information–and Michael Yon provides more and better information than all of the major media outlets combined. Using the information he provides, each of us can form more intelligent opinions on the situation in Iraq, which cannot help but influence our opinions about things going on here in America.

It’s refreshing to see first-hand reports like his because it paints such a different picture than the one the MSM feeds America on a daily basis. Plus the fact that a lot of these people are self-financed and/or take donations from readers to keep them equipped and able to continue their reporting.
