9:30 PM- Huckabee is out

Huckabee just dropped out of the Republican race. John McCain is now the nominee-apparent of the Republican Party.

Next up for the Republicans, the vice presidential announcement.

In a way, wrapping up the deal tonight could be the best thing that has happened to the Republicans since Ronald Reagan. They may now have weeks, even months to run “unopposed” against the Democrats while they slug it out.

Then again, does Clinton drop out so as not to give the Republicans traction? Not likely, but worth considering.

The word is that McCain will receive President Bush’s endorsement tomorrow.

Or does McCain sealing the nomination keep him off the front pages for weeks, while Clinton and Obama keep getting months of free press as they continue to slug it out?

  3. dlhitzeman says:

That is one way of looking at it, but I think McCain is savy enough to prevent that, and he now also owns the entire Republican machine.

I’m think there are going to be all kinds of Republicans who come out of the woodwork saying that they’ve “supported McCain all along” but they “just wanted to let the process work”.

Whatever the case, the Republican machine survived this campaign relatively unscathed, and I think it will unite behind McCain just to keep Obama or Clinton out.

So Hannity was just on Fox News talking about how McCain is a great candidate and how he stayed out of the election by not endorsing a candidate so not to assert undo influence. Now he thinks that the party will unite behind McCain; what happened before was just the more liberal and conservative elements of the party working things out.

    Ha!

  5. chris says:

Hannity is an idiot. Well, he’s an entertainer.

    But I repeat myself.
