The story of David becoming king is the story of the consequences of the sin of Israel. Israel demanded a king, rejecting God’s ordained order for their land. What they got was Saul, a man who descended into depravity and nearly cost Israel conquest by its enemies. Finally, David came to the throne by civil war and treachery.
