20060824 Bible Study for the Day: 2 Samuel 2-3

2 Samuel 2-3

The story of David becoming king is the story of the consequences of the sin of Israel. Israel demanded a king, rejecting God’s ordained order for their land. What they got was Saul, a man who descended into depravity and nearly cost Israel conquest by its enemies. Finally, David came to the throne by civil war and treachery. Such are the consequences of sin.

Yet, David did become king, in accordance with God’s promise, and even though the path was hard, it was a path that resulted in good for all of Israel and all mankind, for from David’s house came our Savior. All things work together, as God promises us, for the good of those who love God.
